Indeed, Napoleon (the 1st), who often comes to hunt in the forest, decided in 1809 to create a cavalry school in the castle.
His nephew (Napoleon III) installed the imperial guard there in the Gramont and Luxembourg districts with his officers' mess. In addition, it was he who transformed the old castle into a museum of National Antiquities.
By their contribution, they therefore fully justify the name of "St Germain imperial city".
